SANDBLASTING & SODA BLASTING VS WATER JETTING
Unlike abrasive blasting, including sandblasting, dry ice and soda blasting, water jetting does not use an abrasive medium to remove the unwanted material. Instead of using soda, dry ice or sand, blasting with water simply lets clean and filtered high-pressure water do the work. As a result there is no dust and less mess than with sand or soda blasting. Water jetting is becoming the surface preparation method of choice for painters due to the low levels of chlorides and other contaminants left in the surface.
Key advantages over abrasive blasting
- Very low level of residual chlorides
- Corrosion removed from deep pits in the surface
- Corrosion and contaminants not trapped within the surface profile
- Reduced containment, collection and disposal issues
- No dust – other work can be completed simultaneously
- Minimal heating of surface
